What is the best bar b que set up for a motorhome?

ANSWER Hi Dennis, I am glad that you have asked this question. Barbecuing and Grilling goes hand in hand with RVing and Camping. I will tell you upfront that our family loves to grill while camping. In our over 3 decades of RVing, we have had several different BBQ Grills. Some were good and some were bad. Some were charcoal grills and some were propane grills.

Three years ago I finally found a BBQ Grill that is perfect for our needs and I love it and use it all the time. It's called the Weber Q-1000 Portable Gas Grill (formerly the Q-100) (see picture to the left).

This little grill is very sturdy and it cooks everything I throw at it. It heats up very quickly and if you like grill marks on your steaks and hamburgers, just crank this puppy up to high and it sears the meat to perfection. The heat is adjustable enough even to cook items low and slow. This grill is the perfect size for us; it has a 189 square inch cooking area which is enough cooking area for a family of four and puts out 8,500 BTUs of heat. The heat that this grill puts out is very even; there are no hot or cold spots. The cooking grates are quite easy to clean because they are made of Porcelain-enameled cast-iron. These grates are not flimsy like other portable grills that I have used.

The grill can use either 14 oz or 16 oz propane canisters, or you can do as I did and buy the Weber 6' 1 lb to 20 lb Converter Hose and hook it up to a 20 lb. propane tank. The grill weighs around 29 pounds and fits perfectly in the storage compartment of
our Motorhome. I personally give it a 5 out of 5-star rating and the people that have bought this grill from Amazon.com give it an overall rating of 4 1/2 stars.

Oh, by the way, if you are a diehard charcoal griller Weber also has Portable Charcoal Grills available.

There are also larger versions of the Weber Q portable Gas Grills. Some have fold-out side worktables, and each grill comes with a Weber Q Cookbook and all of them have a limited 5-year warranty.

My Favorite BBQ Grilling Accessories

The Cuisinart 20-Piece Deluxe Grill Set with Aluminum Carrying Case

Of course there are Weber Q Grill Accessories available, but my favorite BBQ Grill accessory is the The Cuisinart 20-Piece Deluxe Grill Set with Aluminum Carrying Case (pictured above). I love this grill tool set. The grilling tools work great. The tools are constructed of stainless steel and are easy to clean and most of all, they all fit in a sturdy aluminum case.

I cannot tell you how many times in the past I had to run around the motorhome trying to remember where I put the spatula or tongs so I could start Grilling. Now I store these tools next to the grill in the motorhome storage compartment. No more hunting before cooking.

The kit has twenty essential tools for grilling: A chef’s spatula, grill tongs, digital temperature fork, silicone basting brush, four pairs of corn holders, five skewers, cleaning brush with extra brush head are all contained in a durable aluminum carrying case - perfect for RVing or at home. Once you are done with tools, you clean them and securely fasten them back in the carrying case; so, they don't just rattle around in the storage compartment.

weber Smokey Joe charcoal grill

I prefer the Smokey Joe charcoal grill. Small, light and grills like a dream. I have 2 more propane grills but always go to this one.

Grill for flavor
by: Anonymous

In my view, grilling on gas is just a step above broiling it in an oven. No wood or smoke flavoring.

Raptor Grilling's Charcoal Saving, Clean Hands, Large Portable Charcoal Grill

I would only cook on a charcoal or wood fire. I just bought a charcoal grill from Raptor Grilling (www.raptorgrilling.com) and love it. It is more convenient than charcoal grills in the past because I don't get my hands dirty when I clean or light it. It is also extremely fuel efficient so I can fill the grill at home and cook for my family all weekend without dragging the extra charcoal with me.

Webber Q 2200
by: Scott

Weber Q2200 Liquid Propane Grill

I can't say enough good things about the Webber Q. We have the 2200 with the optional folding wheeled cart. It is big enough to cook just about anything with space on the grill to add a smoke box. We also have the optional cast iron griddle which easily replaces one of the 2 grills for cooking pancakes, eggs, etc. Heats up quick with no hot spots and cools down quick for storage. Even with the cart it takes up a surprisingly small amount of space and with the cart it rolls so easily into place in the basement of our rv.

Weber By All Means

I agree with the choice of the others on the Weber. Cast iron grill cleans well when you "burn it off" using a sheet of foil (shiny side down) and leave it on HIGH for about 15 mins after you're done cooking. We have also had numerous grills thru the years, this being the best one.

Rapid Cooker?
by: John

Has anyone seen this new portable grill
that's out? It's like a commercial broiler that you can use with a little propane tank! Joe Namath (hall of fame quarterback that did the coin toss at the Super Bowl) made it.

It cooks amazing steaks! It's easy to clean and heats up over 1400 degrees in seconds. I was skeptical it could get that hot but it did.. was amazed at how fast it seared meat. It's small enough that I can stick it in the trunk and take it with us camping, and to the games.

Weber Q-100
by: Anonymous

I understand Weber is/has discontinued the Q100's. I found one at a WalMart and an Ace Hardware with surprisingly Ace being the best deal.

Regards
Tim

Note from RVing Al Weber has replaced the Q-100 with the Q-1000.

The best BBQ Grill
by: Owen W Lindsay

The best grill is the one you have with you. The one you remembered the fuel for, and the one with it's own igniter so you don't have to spend hours looking for the matches.

One where you know the hot areas for the thicker steaks and the cooler areas for the thinner ones. If this is what you have,it doesn't matter how new, how old, how expensive, or fancy it may be. Your meal will be enjoyable!

Weber 200 just perfect!
by: ROlsen

We've been using the Weber 200 for about 3 years camping. Its the perfect size for our family of 5, and if I run out of propane (I use the additional propane connector hose to a 20 lb extra tank we bring), I just borrow the trailer tank to do a quick BBQ. I started this year keeping two extra 14 oz propane cans for that 'just in case the 20 lb'er runs out' scenarios. It fits perfectly in our cubbies.

Weber
by: Anonymous

We just bought the Weber 200 a couple of weeks ago and also got the stand for it which sells separately, we used it last week for the first time on our outing and it did a wonderful job. We have a Weber grill at home and it's about 10 or so years old and we have been able to get replacement parts for it when they have deteriorated and we felt that the extra cost for the RV grill was worth it.

Call me a throwback

You can call me a throwback, but most places we stay have fire rings. Our barbeque grill is simply one of those tripod grills and a stack of wood.

Coleman
by: JoAnn

We also bought the Coleman because of the stand and we bought the bag and grill tools. So far we are happy with this. If we did not buy the Coleman I think we would have bought the Weber. I think the Weber is a little pricier.

We Had 3 different grills before we got the Weber Q and it is the best grill we have ever had. The cast iron grate really heats up and is perfect for steaks.

Coleman Roadtrip Grill
by: JoAnn McDougall

Editors Note: This comment was submitted on the Everything About RVing Facebook Fan Page.

we have the coleman roadtrip - blue, and we chose it over the Webber because it came with a stand and the design makes it easy to clean. We also bought the griddle and the burner add ons, so we can do most of our cooking on it. I am really happy with our decision.

We have a 5th wheel camper that came equipped with a RV-Q Grill and propane hook-up. My husband loves the convenience of this unit.
