What Tires Are Better For A Toy Hauler Bias Or Radial?

by Anonymous

What are better tires for a Toy Hauler Bias or Radials?

ANSWER: Thanks for submitting your question on our Ask An RV Question Page.

I am afraid there is no correct answer to your question. Because this is an ongoing topic of discussion amongst RVers that tow Travel Trailers, Toy Haulers, 5th Wheels etc. Below is a brief overview based on those discussions.

Bias Tires:

Pros: Tend to cost less than Radial Tires. Tend to have stronger sidewalls than Radials. Tend to cause less damage to the trailer when they blow out. Tend to do better than Radials on unpaved roads.

Cons: Not as much tread in contact with the road as Radials. Tend to run hotter than Radials. Tend to blow out more often than radials, Tread tends to wear out sooner. Not as fuel efficient as Radials.

Radial Tires:

Pros: Tend to run cooler than Bias Tires. Have more tread in contact with the road for greater stability. Tend to have better fuel mileage. Tend to wear better than Bias Tires.

Cons: Tend to be more expensive then Bias Tires. Tend to have weaker sidewalls then Bias Tires. Tend to cause more damage to trailer during a blow out.

Again there is nothing scientific about the information above it is just a small synopsis of what RVers claim their experiences are with each type tire. I am sure that I missed some pros and cons for each one.

I urge our visitors to jump in here and add their own opinions on which tire they think is best.

I know that I have not given you my answer and that my answer would be nothing more than an opinion on my part and I will leave those opinions to my visitors.

Do you have an opinion on which tire type is better? If so you can give us your opinion by clicking on the "Click Here To Post Comments" link located near the bottom of this page.
