British Columbia Camping is Fantastic

Campsite near Whistler, BC

British Columbia is a campers paradise. If you are a camper, be it tent camping, travel trailer or a full scale motor home, camping in BC is simply incredible.

Here is what you can expect when you visit.

  1. Some of the best highways in North America.

  2. Mountains to view at every turn.

  3. Beautiful valleys with pristine lakes and rivers.

  4. Vancouver, the number one destination on earth.

  5. Whistler ski and summer resort.

  6. Unbelievable hiking, fishing, kayaking and golfing everywhere.

  7. An RV paradise with fantastic campsites.

  8. Over 1,200 FREE or small fee campgrounds.

The Province of British Columbia has hundreds of parks with beautiful RV campsites. Roomy, nice big thick boarded tables, campfire pits and the best washrooms ever.

You can reserve your campsite weeks in advance.

There are also many top quality commercial campgrounds and RV parks with first class facilities.

Free and minimal cost Forestry Sites

Apart from these features there are over 1,200 smaller campsites that are free to use, or that charge a small fee. They are called Forestry Sites. They are un-serviced but owned by the crown. Each site has a nice picnic table and fire ring and each area has a pit toilet.

Sites with Fees

These sites are managed through partnership agreements with recreation groups, community organizations, First Nations, private citizens, local governments, and forest companies.

Camping fees are charged to pay for the services provided by the agreement holder, which may include supervision, daily maintenance, and facility/structure maintenance.

Camping fees can range from $10-$15 per night for a person, family or party of six.

These sites were ordered as part of the requirements for the logging, oil and gas companies permission to log and explore in an area.

This means that the land base is managed for a variety of land uses, which may include forestry, cattle grazing, mineral extraction, oil and gas exploration, recreation, fish and wildlife management, and watershed protection.

While visiting recreation sites and trails, you can expect to encounter a number of these land management activities. Recreation sites and trails were formerly known as Forest Service recreation sites and trails, and were previously the responsibility of the BC Ministry of Forests.

Be careful and you should be fine.

Many of these sites are serviced by unpaved roads and the entry roads may not be perfectly suitable for the largest motor homes, but, having said that, you should check them out on foot before you drive off the roadway.

Sometimes what looks forbidding at first glance may look better when you scout it out.

If you do not feel safe in taking your rig in, look for another site further on. In many instances these sites may be near to each other.

For instance, in a 3 mile distance on the Duffy Lake road you will find no less than 4 campsites with from 4 to 7 spaces each.

Here is how you can find your Forestry Campsite
