How To Access Spare Tire On Class C RV

by Anonymous
(Cut Bank, MT, USA)

Please Note: This in reference to a Class C RV on a Ford Chassis.

How do you access the spare tire on the Fleetwood Jamboree GT? Can see the tire mounted underneath in the back of the frame, but unable to find anything in the owners manual on lowering it from the mount. If I were building it I might have put something in the queen bed frame above it, but didn't see anything obvious. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

ANSWER: Thanks for submitting your question on our Ask An RV Question Page.

Without being able to look at what you are looking at I can only assume that your spare tire is on a crank down carrier that needs to be operated by a wrench or a spare tire carrier tool that came with your RV.

The fact is you may have to crawl under your RV to find where to attach the tool to lower the spare tire so you can use it. Depending on how long it has been since someone has lowered this tire you may find that it will not work as well as it should.

Depending on the year of your chassis the tire may actually be on a shelf that requires you to physically lower the tire to the ground. One thing is for sure these spare tire designs do not make
it easy for you to change your own tires.

In fact a lot of RV Manufacturers do not even include spare tires with their new RVs because they figure that no RVer would want to go to the trouble of changing their own tires. They just figure you will use your RV Emergency Road Service Plan and have your RV towed to a shop and buy a new tire. This is also why most RV Manufacturers do not include tire changing instructions in their owner’s manuals.
