The Pilot Light On My RVs Furnace Stays Lit But Furnace Will Not Turn On

by Frank
(New York)

I light the pilot light and turn up the thermostat and it does not kick on but the pilot stays lit.

ANSWER: Greetings Frank thanks for submitting your question on our Ask An RV Question Page.

There are number of possible causes for your problem. Unfortunately, I cannot tell you for sure which one is causing your problem. I have listed the most common causes below.

1. A blown fuse in the 12 volt circuit that powers the furnace.

2. A bad Thermostat.

3. A bad Furnace Control Board.

4. The house batteries are low and not providing enough power to activate the furnace system.

5. Loose or broken wiring in furnace electrical system.

6. Bad ground in the furnace wiring system.

7. Bad Furnace Motor.

Again the items I listed above are the most common causes of an RV Furnace not coming on. There could be other causes as well.

My suggestion at this point is to check for the simple to fix causes and if you still cannot get it to work you should take it to a Certified RV Technician and have them diagnose and repair the problem.

I hope that this information has been helpful to you.
