What Is The Best Awning For a Truck Camper?

We just purchased an older slide in camper (1991) that appears to be in really good shape, however, it has not ever had an awning. We would like to install an awning on the side of the camper. What are the biggest issues to be aware of during installation and where might we look for the best product for the money? I am a fairly mechanically inclined individual, but is this a project that is best left to the professionals.

The last thing I want is to start a leak or damage the exterior of my unit. By the way, the slide in, is a 1991 Starcraft 1050 Fleetstar. Your input is appreciated.

ANSWER: Greetings Rob thanks for submitting your question on our Ask An RV Question Page.

When it comes to Truck Campers there is not a vast array of Awnings available as there are for Travel Trailers and Motorhomes. In my opinion your best bet would be a Carefree Freedom Wall Mount Patio Awning (pictured above).

This awning is available as a manual crank-out awning or you can get the 12 volt model that has an electric motor and push button operation. Either way I think it will work on the Camper you have.
