Where Do I Add Brake Fluid And Power Steering Fluid In My RV?

by Michael Elliott
(Diamond Bar, California)

I have a 1993 33 ft. Southwind with a Chevy engine. I cannot find the power steering or the break filler. I have been advised it is under the chassis someplace, but I can't locate it. Any help?

ANSWER: Greetings Michael thanks for submitting your question on our Ask An RV Question Page.

At the front exterior of your Motorhome is an engine access door, you should be able to access both your power steering fluid and brake fluid reservoirs from that area. You will notice that I did not say "easily access" the reservoirs, but none the less you should be able refill the power steering and brake fluids from that area.

Just in case you are not familiar with what you are looking for, you might want to enlist a knowledgeable friend to help you find the reservoirs. It also would not hurt to use a flashlight. Sometimes you have to be a contortionist just to get to these items.

I am not aware of the power steering fluid reservoir or brake fluid reservoir only being accessible from underneath the RV. That does not mean that it isn't possible, I just have not seen a gas powered RV with the filler points located in that area.

Sorry I could not be of more help to you, but without actually looking at the inside of your engine compartment I cannot easily point out what you should be looking for.

Checking Brake Fluid
by: Al

I have a 1992 Bounder on a Ford chasis and it is just next to impossible to check the brake fluid which is located on the frame behind the front tire on the drivers side!

On my p-30 chevy chas.with 454 engine the brake
master is mounted on the inside of the left frame
rail behind the left front wheel. If you turn the front wheels hard to the right you might be able
to slide in between the fender and the wheel to check the brake fluid.
The power steering should be in the engine
compartment.
