Grilled Cinnamon Apples

Grilled Cinnamon Apples

Serves 4

Growing up as a kid these were always one of my favorite desserts. Whether you use Granny Smiths, Jonathans, or McIntosh they are always a crowd pleaser.

Ingredients:

4 large apples
1 4 oz. stick butter, divided in fourths
½ cup granulated sugar
4 heaping teaspoons brown sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon

foil and Oil for grill

Directions:

1 Preheat grill to medium.

2 Core the apples to make a pocket. Leaving the bottom of the apples intact. Cut ½ inch off the top of the cores of the apples to create a lid for the apples.

3. Mix sugar and cinnamon into a small bowl. Set aside.

4. Add 1 heaping teaspoon brown sugar and 1 pat of butter into each apple core cavity, and then add equal amounts of the cinnamon sugar mixture. Then place the core top on the apples.

6. Place each apple in the middle of a square sheet of aluminum foil. Fold up the corners of the foil to the top of the apples to make a pouch. Roll the ends of the pouch closed, so the mixture won?t leak out.

7. Lightly oil the grill and place apple foil packs on the grill, using indirect heat, for 30-40 minutes. Let cool before removing foil.

Top the apples with chocolate syrup, maple syrup, honey, ice cream, crushed cookies, etc., or top with a slice of your favorite cheese.
