What Fuel Mileage Can I Expect From a 1979 24 Ft. Midas Motor Home?

by Stacy
(Casselberry, FL)

I am thinking about buying my first motorhome, after Traveling/living in a travel van for over two years. Does any one know how many miles per gallon a 1979 GMC 24 Ft. Motor Home Midas uses? And what else should I know before I buy?

Year: 1979
Make: GMC
Model: Midas
Length: 24

24ft 400 Chevy Turbo 400
Mileage: 77,250
Sleeps: up to 6
Engine manufacturer: GM
Fuel type: Gas

ANSWER: Greetings Stacey thanks for submitting your question on our Ask An RV Question Page.

Ahh yes, the age old RVers question what fuel mileage am I going to get in my RV? Well I am afraid there is no definite answer to this question.

RV Fuel mileage depends on a lot of factors such as how much does the RV weigh when it is full of all of your camping stuff, are you going to be towing another vehicle behind it (a Toad), how fast you drive (staying at 55 miles or below will save you fuel), a well maintained engine will get better fuel mileage than one that is not well maintained, and so on and so on.

Based on the factors above you could expect mileage to vary between 7 to 11 miles per gallon and this is only a guess on my part, your actual fuel mileage could be better or worse.

There is one thing I know for sure and that is since you are looking to buy a 1979 RV your first concern should be the overall condition of the RV itself. You need to do a complete Inspection of the used RV you are looking at. Unexpected repair bills on your RV could cost a lot more than filling up your RV with gas.

Please follow the inspection guidelines I outline on our Used RV Inspection Page, before you sign on the dotted line.

Hope this helps.
