How Come The Furnace On My Travel Trailer Will Not Stay Lit?

by Steve
(Niceville FL)

I have a 33' Surveyor Travel Trailer. When I turn the thermostat for the heat on, the igniter just clicks and does not light the burner. I followed the instructions that came with the furnace and it will light, but after a few hours it will not relight.

I put the thermostat up high and let the blower blow for five minutes, turn it down low for about two minutes until the blower turns off, then turn the propane tanks off for 5 minutes, then back on. Sometimes it will light after the valve resets, sometimes not.

What is my problem??

ANSWER: Greetings Steve thanks for submitting your question on our Ask An RV Question Page.

I wish I could give you a definitive answer to your question, but the symptoms you are experiencing can be caused by a lot of different things, such as low Propane Pressure at the furnace, a bad thermostat, a bad furnace control board, a bad temperature limiter Switch, etc.

Please read the answers I gave to the questions below to see if you can narrow down the cause of the problem.

there was some lint in the plug on the control board, cleaned the plug out and ran a pencil eraser over the contacts on the board, stays lit now.
