Can I Replace The Two 6 Volt Batteries In My RV With 2 12 Volt Batteries?

by Anonymous

Can I replace 2 six volt batteries with two 12 volt batteries?

ANSWER: Greetings thanks for submitting your question on our Ask An RV Question Page.

The simple answer to your question is; yes you can replace your 2 six volt deep cycle batteries with 2 twelve volt batteries. The question that you should be asking is; should you replace your 2 six volt deep cycle batteries with 2 12 volt batteries? The answer to that question is a resounding NO.

I know that it probably sounds logical that if you replace your 2 six volt deep cycle batteries with 2 twelve volt batteries that you will have twice as much power and that you will be able to use your 12 volt power 2 times longer before your batteries get low. But, sometimes things that seem logical may not always end up being correct.

Please read the answers to the questions below to find out why you should not do what you are planning to do.

Are 2 Six Volt Batteries Better Than 1 Twelve Volt Battery To Provide Power To Inside Of RV?

Do I Really Need A Deep Cycle Battery In My RV?

If you want to really improve how long your house batteries last during boondocking etc. and you have the battery space in your RV you should consider having 2 more 6 volt batteries installed. By moving up to 4 six volt batteries you will double the length of time they will operate your 12 volt accessories before they need to be recharged.

I hope that this information was helpful to you.

replace 2 6volt with 2 12 volt

that depends, Are the six-volt batteries in series.? house cables on one battery minus and the other on the second battery plus and a short cable between battery minus and plus. as in cable - battery+ wire - battery + red cable ... then you can put 2 12 volt batteries but you must reconnect these batteries in parallel... 2 six volt in series = 12 volts 2 twelve volts in parallel = 12 volts at double power.

or as stated 4 six volts, each pair in series and extra set in parallel with original series connected voltage add together. parallel connected current capability adds together. For non-electric persons, know that CURRENT is always 'drawn' never pushed. extra current is just 'available', not forced.
