How Do I Convert the Reclining Chairs in My RV into Single Beds?

by Ruthie Westbrook
(Armuchee, Georgia, usa)

I recently purchased a 32 foot 1987 Winnebago Itasca motorhome. I was told that the two captains chairs in the living area converted to make a single bed.

I have every book that came with the camper and there are no instructions about it at all. I need someone to tell me where I can get the instructions. I just don't see how the chairs can do that.

Editors Note: The chairs that Ruthie is referring to are the two reclining chairs
icon in the living area not the Captain Chairs in the drivers area.

ANSWER: Hi Ruthie thanks for submitting your question on our Ask An RV Question Page

I am afraid that you have stumped me on this one, because I do not believe that the two recliners in your picture above can be converted into a single bed. I do know that sofa
icon in the picture should be able to convert to a bed.

Maybe I am missing something here. Hopefully if those chairs can be converted to a bed one of our visitors can leave a comment on this page to enlighten both of us on how to convert the chairs to a bed.

OK RVers now's your chance to help answer Ruthie's question. If you know how to convert the recliners in the picture at the top of this page into a bed, please leave a comment on this page by clicking on the "Click Here To Post Comments" link located near the bottom of this page.

Recling RV chairs into single bed
by: Anonymous

We do this all the time, but we use the passenger front & the swivel recliner behind it. Turn both chairs facing each other & scoot them forward towards each other as far as they go then recline both chairs. Ours meet close enough for one comfortable reclined sleeping position.

2 chairs, 1 bed

See if there is a lever that lets the back of the chair lay flat. If yes, fold down the table, aim the chairs so that they are back to back, lay both backs flat.

convert recliners into single beds
by: Mary Francis

By looking at the pic I don't see how you can make the recliners in to two single beds at all. Maybe you misunderstood the person that was telling you the sofa however should be converted into a full or queen size bed .

Maybe if you take the RV back to where you bought it they can show you how to if it can be done
