How to Plug a 50 Amp RV Into 30 Amp Electrical Service

Is it possible to plug in a 50 Amp travel trailer into a 30 Amp plug if the park you are staying at only offers 30 Amp service?

ANSWER: Hi J. valles, Yes you can plug your 50 amp RV into 30 Amp electrical service by using a 50 amp female to 30 amp male electrical adapter like the one pictured at the top of this page.

You need to be aware that when you plug your 50 amp RV into 30 amp service that you will have some limitations on how many appliances you can run at one time.

If your RV is equipped with 2 Air Conditioner units you can only run one Air Conditioner unit at a time. If you try to use both AC units at the same time you will pop the shore powers circuit breaker.

Some RV's come equipped with an automatic power management system that senses when you are plugged into 30 amp service and will automatically cycle the AC units for you or in some cases automatically start your RV's generator to provide enough power to use both AC units.

If you keep the above exceptions in mind; you should be just fine.

Hope this helps.
