I Have A Sagging Floor And Possible Leak In My Starcraft Expandable Travel Trailer

by Michel Loiello
(Pointe Claire, QC. Canada)

My Hybrid Travel Star (about 9 years old) has developed a sagging floor just beside the bench seat which holds the water pump, fresh water holding tank and water heater. I haven't seen any water leakage anywhere. The floor covering extends the length/width of the trailer so I assume one would see water if there was a leak.

My question is: Before I attempt to remove the interior floor covering of my trailer I would like to know how a floor is constructed. Are there any floor stringers or is it just a piece of 1 1/2 inch laminate crossing the entire surface of the floor that rests on 2 steel frames? I can't tell from beneath because it is well sealed with very heavy plastic sheeting.

If the floor laminate is corroded what type of problem would I encounter if I were to replace it? Remove all furniture, carpet, walls etc????

Any comments would be appreciated.

Damaged Flooring
by: Erin H

We have water damaged flooring by the front bed of our 2004 Starcraft Antigua 215SB, without any noticeable reason. My father and husband re-sealed around all the pipes and fittings and the water tanks as well, but the problem still grew worse. We now to replace all the flooring. Any tips or similar experience would be helpful.

2005 Starcraft Travelstar 19CK, Sagging floor
by: Wayne S.

I ended up Googling for help on this issue. Last weekend I opened the trailer for airing. Upon adjusting the front mattress and standing close to the front end wall, the floor sagged under me feet with the sound of crunching plywood. I disassembled the front seating frame, and had to cut out a 4 x 5 section of vinyl flooring. A LOT of moisture was present; the flooring no longer glued.

The plywood has buckled & cracked needing obvious replacement of that section. The hot water tank or no other plumbing has leaked, and I cannot find and loose putty around the large window. A roof leak has not been ruled out...yet. But I am wondering if winter water may have run in due to improper placement of the 'flap seal' of the front bunk.

The Owner's manual refers to 'pay particular attention' that the flap seal is tucked under the 'bulb seal'. Mine is not. I wonder if anyone has found this to be a source of water leakage. By the way,...someone gave the phone numbers for Starcraft. I DID call today after work. Spoke with Mervette for several minutes, asking many questions. She was extremely helpful!

Thank you!

by: Chris

I just bought an 03 and the floor between the dinette and some above the fresh water tank is very soft. It sounds like the same thing mentioned above. Do I submitt a claim and how would I do that?

Thanks for any help,

Chris

Starcraft Antiqua Floor Damage
by: FG

Many thanks for the supportative comments regarding the floor damage in my Starcraft Antiqua travel trailer. After discovering that I had insurance coverage, the insurance company totaled the unit and paid the stated coverage. This type of coverage is not very expensive. I recommend it.

Thanks again,
FG

Leaking water tank
by: Anonymous

Brought my trailer back to the dealer to find out that the water tank was leaking very gradually. it wasn't obvious as the leak was under the tank and no accumulation on the floor. They replaced the whole section of the floor with new carpet throughout the trailer. 4K .....covered by my insurance with a 250 deductible

I have a 2004 Starcraft Antigua camper with a soft spot in the floor near the front sleeper beside the sofa. Unable to find any water leak in this area. Do not want to tear into the flooring without knowing the solution. I will contact Starcraft, but does anyone have any solution to this problem.
Thanks in advance,
