Is It OK To Run My Motorhomes Engine When It Is Hooked Up To Electric?

by Elaine
(Texas)

Will it hurt anything if I run the engine on my Motorhome every week while it is hooked up to a 30 amp electric connection?

ANSWER: Greetings Elaine thanks for submitting your question on our Ask An RV Question Page.

It is perfectly safe to run your Motorhome’s engine when the Motorhome is hooked up to electricity at an RV park or your house.

The only time you will experience a problem is if you try to drive the Motorhome with it still hooked up to electricity unless you have a real long extension cord ;-)

Thank You, Thank You.

I took me 3 hours to find my answer but I finally did. I cannot thank you enough. I just did this last night by accident and I thought I fried my Motorhome that my wife and I just saved up and bought. We were hooked up to shore power and I started the engine and mover the Motorhome forward about 6 feet to level ground and I was always told to never be hooked up to power and start the engine at the same time or I would kill the onboard electric system.
