Why Your RV Air Conditioner Only Blows Hot Air

Editor's Note: This question is in reference to a 1995 Gulfstream Innsbrook Trailer.

How can I troubleshoot my air conditioner it worked great one day and the next day the fan will come on and blow but not cool air. What can it be?

ANSWER: Hi, in your description you do not say whether you hear the Air Conditioner's Compressor kicking on or not. If the compressor is not kicking on your AC will not produce cool air.

Below are a couple of steps you can take to see if you can get the AC working again.

* Check your RV's Thermostat to make sure that it did not get set to fan only.

* Check for any tripped circuit breakers.

listed below are a number of other things that could be causing the problems you are experiencing.

* The Control Board for your Air Conditioner could have gone bad.

* A bad starting Capacitor could also cause the AC Compressor not to work.

* The compressor itself could have gone bad.

* The Compressor may have lost Freon due to a leak.

* The Thermostat may have gone bad.

As you can see there are number of problems that could be causing your RV Air Conditioner to blow warm air. Unless you are properly trained and equipped to diagnose and repair the A/C unit, it will end up being a trial and error situation. If you attempt to repair the A/C yourself and do the repair incorrectly you can cause further damage to the air conditioner unit itself or even cause damage to your RV's electrical system.

Unfortunately these types of problems cannot be properly diagnosed over the internet. The Air Conditioning System on your RV needs to be inspected and this is a job that is best left to an RV Technician that is trained and qualified to do A/C repairs. The best thing I can suggest is to take it in and have it looked at and get it repaired.

When I read the title of this article I thought, oh no, there's no way they are going to explain that right but you did. I am a RV Tech with a mobile repair business that this is correct, best left to the professionals.
