Why Is Our RV's Water Pump Noisy?

by Paula
(Kansas)

Our water pump seems to louder than normal when it is used. Also sometimes during the middle of the night it will kick on and then off without turning anything on. Would this be a sign the pump is going out?

ANSWER: Greetings Paula thanks for submitting your question on our Ask An RV Question Page.

Let's start with the noise the pump is making. The noise could be a sign that the water pump is going bad or it could be that the water pump or one of the water lines have come loose and are causing a vibration noise.

The fact that your water pump is coming on in the middle of the night means you probably have a small water leak somewhere in your RV's fresh water system. The pump is designed to keep fresh water supply lines at a certain pressure. When the pressure in the water lines drop the pump automatically comes on to re-pressurize the water line.

You should take your RV in and get it inspected by a Certified RV Technician.

I hope that this information has been helpful to you.
