Why Is There a Sewer Smell In Our Travel Trailer?

by Ted Jacobs
(Salem, Or. Marion)

We have an odor coming from the sewer can it have a crack in the holding tank and if so how to do we go about finding and fixing it without taking it to a dealer. We have a 1980 Holiday Rambler Imperial and it’s a good trailer but it is beginning to have issues.

ANSWER: Greetings Ted thanks for submitting your question on our Ask An RV Question Page.

If the holding tank were cracked you would have more than just a sewer smell in your RV; you would also probably see leaking fluid on the outside of the trailer.

The problem you are talking about is common and has a lot of different causes. Please take a look at the answers I gave to questions below. Make sure you read the comments section of these questions as well.
