Tips and Tricks for Saving Space on Your RV

Packing your stuff is one of the most important things in RV trip preparations. And by packing, I don’t mean simply putting everything inside. Instead, it requires a meticulous and smart approach to make the most of available space. This is possible by doing the things I’ll talk about below.

1. Pack Light

Less is more. It is one philosophy that you should live by. The goal is to ensure you have everything you need for your trip while providing enough space in your RV to move around and make you comfortable.

Packing light is crucial for staying safe during your RV trip. It prevents overloading your RV, making sure it has proper weight distribution. In turn, you can drive with peace of mind while minimizing the risk of an accident. Another great way to save space in an RV is to utilize your roof. In most cases, it's a space you can take advantage of. Among other things, installing a durable cargo carrier is one of the best things to do. This way, you can pack some of your stuff on the roof to free up interior space.

Pick a roof carrier made of sturdy and waterproof materials. This way, you can protect your things from rain. More so, invest in one that comes with a lock so that it will protect your belongings.

2. Install Overhead Storage

Saving more space in your RV is important because an uncluttered RV makes your RVing adventures more enjoyable

Especially if you aren’t that tall, overhead storage can be a good idea for improving small space in an RV. It is one of the most common storage solutions in many motorhomes today.

Be smart when it comes to designing and using overhead storage. For instance, it must have round corners. Plus, it should be securely installed, and you must observe the stated weight limit. Otherwise, it can end up being a nightmare when it falls.

3. Go for Collapsible

To become more space-efficient in your RV, invest in collapsible items. When you aren't using these things, they can be neatly collapsed. Hence, this is a great way to significantly reduce their sizes and save plenty of space in your RV.

Bowls, glasses, buckets, dish drainers, chairs, and tables are some of the best collapsible items you can have in your RV. They are functional and space-saving, making them must-have items in your next RV adventure.

4. Hang Fruit Hammocks and Baskets

Saving more space in your RV is all about being creative when looking for storage solutions. Instead of having fruits and food contributing to clutter on the countertop or other surfaces, you can put them in fruit hammocks and baskets.

Suspending your stuff in baskets installed mid-air can also help keep your fruits fresh. They won't roll and tumble, especially when driving on bumpy roads. Instead, you can secure them in a safe spot.

5. Hooks and Hangers

Installing hooks and hangers is not just for fruit hammocks and baskets. They are versatile. For instance, you can install over-door hooks where you can put a shoe organizer. This way, your footwear can be something other than an eyesore.

Hooks and hangers are also great for organizing towels, clothes, bags, and belts. You can also install them in the bathroom, which will be a great way to organize your toiletries and make them easily accessible.

6. Ditch the Bathroom

Now, this one might sound controversial. I’m sure many of you might disagree but hear me out. It could mean letting go of convenience, but on the other end of the spectrum, it’s also a good thing since you can save space. Not to mention, it can prevent headaches related to maintenance.

In some areas where you can camp, toilet or shower facilities are available. You can also do so in nearby gyms. Alternatively, you could have an outdoor shower instead.

7. Assess What You Need

Take the time to sit down and think about the things you'll need for your trip. List them on paper or even on your phone. Once you have made a list, go over it once or twice and think about some that you can let go of. This way, you'll be freeing valuable space to maximize comfort on the road.

It might be challenging but accept that you won't be able to bring everything. For instance, you might be a bookworm, but you don't need tons of books with you. What about saving for an electronic reader instead?

8. Keep It Clean

This is one of the best and simplest ways to save space in your RV. As you would in your house, cleaning can purge unnecessary stuff. By keeping your RV clean, you organize everything you need and keep your motorhome in its peak condition.

Throw items you no longer need, such as empty cartons, and packaging clean every area, including hard-to-reach places. Put everything in its appropriate place. Doing these things will not only help you save space but can also make the RV more livable

In Closing

Space is a luxury not anyone with an RV is fortunate enough to have. In most cases, you'll be confronted with a small space, but it does not mean that your trips have to be inconvenient. Take note of the saving more space in your RV suggestions above; you can make your RV more comfortable.
